The i3 programme provides flexible workplace spaces for small businesses over a number of new build development sites throughout Fife. The buildings comprise single storey structural steel portal frames with a mix of metal and masonry cladding, subdivided into individual business units of varying size. Substructure solutions vary across sites and include ground bearing and suspended floor slabs, traditional shallow foundations, trench fill foundations and ground improvement.

 

The sites were generally brownfield, with past uses ranging from light industrial to military, requiring thorough investigation in terms of contamination, remnant structures and services. Examples of site related challenges for which solutions were developed to facilitate economic development include contamination remediation, sewer diversions and addressing the impact of buried structures.

 

The Flemington Road site is serviced from the award winning Glenrothes Energy Network, providing low carbon energy to all units.
